What Is Condyloma Acuminata?
Condyloma Acuminata is the type of venereal wart that commonly grows in the genital region. Condyloma Acuminata is actually a kind of a genital wart and is the most common sexually transmitted disease. It can occur at any age, however it is most frequent in adults. There could be one to several of these Condyloma Acuminata warts growing on you.
At least 75% of sexually active adults have been infected with at least one type of genital HPV at some time in their life, like Condyloma Acuminata. Most do not develop visible warts; the infection may show up on a cervical smear. This is known as subclinical infection.
Visible genital warts are often easy to diagnose by their typical appearance. They are usually due to HPV Types 6 and 11.
What Causes Condyloma Acuminata?
Condyloma Acuminata is a very ugly sexually transmitted disease. The warts are caused by the virus (Human Papilloma Virus - HPV) which infects the skin. Skin to skin contact during sexual intercourse is the usual way by which it is spread.
Quite often the infected person's sexual partner/s will also be infected with these Condyloma Acuminata warts. I'd recommend that you have your sexual partner(s) examined by a physician for the presence of these Condyloma Acuminata warts.
Genital and condyloma warts may occur in the:
Vulva, Vagina, Cervix, Urethra, Penis, Scrotum, Anus
Genital warts like Condyloma Acuminata can be transmited by:
- Sexual contact. This is the most common way amongst adults.
- Oral sex. HPV appears to prefer the genital area to the mouth however.
- Mother to baby transmission.
- Auto (self) inoculation from one site to another.
- Fomites (i.e. from objects like bath towels). It remains very controversial whether warts can spread this way, but just in case- take care whilest in saunas and avoid sharing towels with infected persons.
IS Condyloma Acuminata DANGEROUS?
Venereal Condyloma Acuminata warts have been linked to the development of some forms of cancer, in particular cervical cancer. The degree of risk is currently unknown. Women who have Condyloma Acuminata or who have had a sexual partner with Condyloma Acuminata should take a pap smear.
Can this Condyloma Acuminata Be Cured?
Yes it perhaps can be cured, but Condyloma Acuminata warts can be very tough to treat, and they often require multiple treatment sessions. Recurrences and re-infections are quite common. spreading the Condyloma Acuminata wart back and forth between sexual partners is common if both are not treated at the same time.
WILL IT SPREAD? You bet.
Without treatment these warts could continue to spread and grow and grow and grow, infecting others too. Visible Condyloma Acuminata and genital warts are probably more infectious than subclinical HPV infection. Treating warts seems to decrease the chance of passing on the infection. It is unclear whether the immune system completely clears the virus from the body, or whether the virus remains hidden but undetectable, capable of re-emerging years later if the immune system weakens. As a result, it is unclear how long someone remains infectious.
Is Condyloma Acuminata CONTAGIOUS?
Venereal HPV Condyloma Acuminata warts are highly contagious, most often spread by sexual intercourse. It is believed that two out of three individuals that have sexual contact with a partner with condyloma will get lesions within 3 months. It is less likely to contract HPV if you have a strong immune system, a healthy mind in a healthy body.
If your sexual partner(s) is known to have venereal warts, protective measures need to be taken by the use of condoms and contraceptive foam or gel that contains Nonoxynol-9 until both you and your partner are free of warts.
